2021 ALPINA XB7 Car for Sale: Reading
The first-ever ALPINA XB7 is finally here. What does this mean for BMW fans?
Literally, a new era for BMW’s full-size SUVs.
Contrary to what some might think, ALPINA is not another BMW performance-oriented subsidiary. Is much more than that. For years now, ALPINA’s handmade vehicles are synonymous with exclusivity, a perfect blend of BMW’s utmost luxury with the most advanced performance enhancements the brand has to offer.
In the case of the new ALPINA XB7, what the select group of XB7 owners will enjoy goes way beyond a modified X7 M50i. It is a completely redesigned vehicle as a result of close collaboration between BMW and ALPINA experts over the past three years.
Alpina XB7: Exterior
At first glance, there are many ALPINA-specific exterior features that set the XB7 apart from the rest of the X7 lineup. The classic ALPINA Blue and the exclusive ALPINA 21-inch wheels are among them, however, what definitely makes the XB7 stand out is its front spoiler with larger air intakes and its redesigned rear diffuser as well as the impressive quad-exhaust system. Optional 23-inch forged alloy wheels fitted with ultra-performance tires are available to customers looking for an even sportier look.
Overall, as you might expect from ALPINA, the design language used in the 2021 XB7 makes it clear its sporty nature, but it does it in a stylish way.
Interior: Alpina XB7
Once inside the cabin, the legendary attention to detail that ALPINA puts on all of its vehicles is evident. The standard gear shifter and iDrive controls were replaced by elegant ALPINA-redesigned glass controls, the steering wheel is wrapped in exclusive Lavalina leather with blue and green stitching, and a beautiful badge on the center console reminds both the driver and occupants of the uniqueness of the XB7. The XB7 even gets a unique gauge cluster design with ALPINA’s blue and green coloring on it. Other details that highlight ALPINA’s exquisite taste are the blue lighting that accompanies the lever as well as the door sills.
At launch, all these exclusive luxury features can be combined with three unique interior trims, Myrtle luxury wood, Piano lacquer, and Natural Walnut Anthracite.
All in all, ALPINA achieved the unthinkable, taking the already perfect interior design of the BMW X7 to the next level of comfort, luxury, and exclusivity.
Performance
Without a doubt, ALPINA’s racing heritage is noticeable in the 2021 XB7. Hands down, its 621 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque make the ALPINA XB7 the most powerful full-size SUV ever offered by BMW of Reading.
To dethrone the already mighty X7 M50i by such a good margin (89hp and 37 pound-feet of torque), the impressive 2021 ALPINA XB7 went over a complete drivetrain reengineering process. Significant upgrades on the engine’s and Biturbo cooling systems were necessary as well as major changes in the xDrive all-wheel-drive system in order to handle the additional power. The result is nothing short of spectacular. The 2021 ALPINA XB7 can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.0 seconds, quite a feat considering its almost 6,000 pounds weight.
High-level performance upgrades do not end there though. ALPINA is known for its comprehensive approach to performance, which was demonstrated once again on the XB7. To ensure XB7’s handling under the most demanding driving conditions, the suspension was redesigned with two-axle air suspension and ALPINA-specific dampers plus special driving mode settings. Thanks to these suspension enhancements the XB7 can be lowered by 1.6 inches when in Sport Plus mode making its stance even sportier than that of the M50i. Other performance-oriented upgrades include Brembo four-piston high-performance brake calipers, revised ZF 8-speed automatic transmission with ALPINA Switch-Tronic paddle shifters, Integral Active Steering as well as overall tweaks in the on-board computers to push the ALPINA XB7 to the limits and offer the utmost driving experience.
Competition
Luxury and performance improvements pay off when the ALPINA XB7 has to face its competition.
Worthy adversaries such as Mercedes-Benz’s 603 hp flagship SUV, the 2021 AMG GLS 63, falls out short behind ALPINA’s 612 hp twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8. The same goes true for the 590 hp Maserati Levante Trofeo or even the 592 hp Audi RS Q8. Simply put, the 2021 ALPINA XB7 is unquestionably the most powerful full-size SUV in the segment.
In terms of luxury and convenience, the 2021 ALPINA XB7 also shows a clear advantage over the competition. While Audi’s RS Q8 and Maserati’s Levante Trofeo has to settle with 5 seats to save weight, ALPINA gives its customers the option to configure the XB7 as a 5-seater or a 7-seater. In other words, the customer is in control of what suit better its needs.
